After reading this post; you should be able to explain what is link detox and types of links and the latest link attributes and most importantly how to perform link detoxification to increase rankings of webpages and recover from the recent Google algorithm update penalty.

I am assuming that you already know what are inbound and outbound links. Do not get confused with internal links.

A quick refresher…

Inbound Links: Links coming from other websites on the www to your website pages.

Outbound Links: Links going out from your website pages to other website pages on www.

Internal Links: Links from one to other pages within your website content structure.

What is Link Detox?

Link detoxification is the process of disavowing irrelevant and spam incoming links from other websites to your website.

But it does not stop there at incoming links.

Every outbound link should also be detoxified with Google’s new link attributes like sponsored and ugc.

Detox Outbound Links

Let us first detox outgoing links from website pages. Now, you need to manually check every outgoing link from your pages and make sure they have noffolow, sponsored and ugc attributes depending on the nature and purpose of outbound links you have on your pages.

One thing to remember though; every sponsored outbound links must be accompanied with nofollow as well.

I know you are saying “it’s an easy task but time consuming process”.

Well, if that’s the case; you should hire someone from places like fiverr. Explain to them what you want to be done on your website.

The process of detoxing inbound links is easier than the outbound link detoxification. Inbound link detoxification can be done with backlink explorer set tools like SEMRUSH Backlinks. SEMrush has the disavow feature inbuilt that lets webmasters disavow bad backlinks and low-quality links that make detoxifying inbound links easier than you think.

Process…

Resubmit XML Sitemap or Use Quick Index API

Once you are done with detoxifying your links and you would want to let Google and other search engines know that you have made some important changes on your website by submitting the website XML sitemap to all the search engines.

In case of Google, you can use their Quick Indexing API to quickly crawl your website in no time.

Link Detox Alternative Tools

There are a few alternative tools to Link Detox tool. In my opinion – Google and other search engines do not care much about bad links these days. However, it’s a good idea to remove all the incoming bad links to your website.

If you rely on tools you can use SEMrush disavow feature that is more like detoxifying your links.
